Ran across this video on a new line of SAK pocket things (but its not a knife).

Nifty to be sure and standard high quality Victorionix construction, but why?

I am guessing that this is a response to the restrictive regulations in the UK and other European jurisdictions.

So, these are not technically an SAK . . .so what can we call them?

Most people consider SAKs to be multitools of a kind, not really a pocket knife per se. These were discussed back when they dropped down in the Multi Tool section, incidentally. Some folks like them, some folks live in less restrictive environments so they don't see much need. 🤷

One big use case for these would be to have during travel that involves leaving from an airport.

I don't know what to call them besides multitools.

They could have some uses.

I'd be down for an all black one with blacked out tools.
Yeah me too. A lot of time I gotta MacGyver stuff on the down low and he reflected light from sliver tools puts the mission at risk.

As Quiet Quiet said, we talked about in detail in the MT section. The consensus seems to be somewhere between "Hey, these might be a nice to have for an option." to "What kind of woke silliness is this!? Stay out of of my SAK, Nanny State!"

I bought one to carry abroad. I don't go abroad often, but I try to err on the side of being overly polite when I am in someone else's house. I was in Ireland. You can carry a knife in Ireland, but they are almost universally frowned upon in public. It's like going to a buffet and spooning out the entire contents of the mash potatoes on your plate. Allowed? Technically. Best practice? Not so much.

These little knife-less tools will absolutely get taken by TSA, so don't count on putting it in your carry-on without being ready to plead your case. We had two checked bags, so it was not an issue. However, they are useful enough that I have been carrying mine around in my fifth pocket next to my Zippo just because it's nice to have a little clutch of tools. The tools are really well built, and the new package opener is actually pretty damn sharp. For most, it is going to be a more useful tool than a can opener. It still has the screwdriver tip, but the front of the tool is almost razor sharp out of the box, and the serrated teeth burn through cardboard and nylon straps. It will do almost anything a layperson would do with a knife in an office or home in the 21st century. I really like mine.

I have kinda grown so fond of the package opener, that one of the reasons I am looking at the new locking SAKs that come with a locking knife blade, is because that little tool does so much heavy lifting doing the dirty work, that you can basically keep a full size SAK knife blade razor sharp for detailed work or food prep or whatever while you bang on what is basically a micro steak knife.

I am all for new innovations :)

The knife on most MT's are not so great that I don't usually have a much better one I'm carrying . 🤷‍♂️

So , assuming a more useful tool array , I might be in for a knife-less model .

Especially if it would be acceptable in knife restricted areas .

There is a thread regarding knifeless Swiss army "knives" in the multitool section already that has discussed this matter to death, to be honest. Where i live in am not hindered by silly laws preventing me from carrying knives, except switchblades and butterfly knives, but i have no interest in carrying those so I am largely unaffected.
I don't see a need to carry a knifeless sak because, with the exception of some here who've said otherwise, the knife is the most, or one of the most used tools on a swiss army knife. Knifeless saks have their places on public transportation, but how many loose screws or stray threads do you figure you'll run into? 😉🤔
