a friend has a green handle knife with a 4 1/2 or 5 inch blade that locks open and releases by pressing back on a red square in the handle. it has some small tools and a large saw also.it is a large knife not small like the red handle ones. can someone tell me what it is and what it is worth and is it a good one.

Probably not quite enough description to positively identify this knife.

However with green handles -
could it possibly be this knife?

Victorinox Hunter model with Olive Green handles.

If so, then the low price found is about $25 new.

Being Victorinox this is a very good knife/tool.

It kinda sounds like a large Wenger lockblade. Is the Swiss cross square shaped or more shield shaped?

i have the knife now and it is a wegner with a kinda round square not shield with a white cross on the side. it has a large locking blade and a saw, flat screwdriver, can opener in front and a leather punch, philips, in back. mine does not have a toothpick or twizzers.it has a fancy' w 'on the end of the rear grip.it looks like the centurian but is a wagner and no twizzers or toothpick. mine may be a bit larger and my blade shape is more a clip shape . is this a good knife, what is it worth as far as price and are they rare or easily obtained.wonder what the steel is.
david.thank you all for helping .

The Wenger lock blades are larger than what Victorinox has to offer. My Dad has a Ranger model, has a blade, saw, BO, CO, awl, CS, pliers, phillips. The locking system is similar to what Victorinox uses. It is a robust knife and will stand up to years of good use.

I don't know if Wenger sells them here in North America, FYI my Dad bought his at a Singapore airport, pre 9/11.

You mean, red handles WITH the locking blade? It must be the Wenger Securite:

A nice innovation on Wenger's behalf.

is what i have a century? i have no way to post pics. what steel is used. worth? imy knife is none pictured in this thread. i believe what acwire described is mine also.what differance does the shield shape make?
thank u all for your help.
it is a great lil knife and the saw works great and is sharp and the large locking blade( only blade it has) will take a nice edge.

You mean more like this?

That's the Wenger Mountaineer (model # 16470) (link) - it is a current model

This has grey handles - and search on Froogle.com finds prices around $40.
