Ok I'm back home as of about an hour ago.Not fully deck worthy yet for another couple of weeks.Still got oral antibiotics in doses more fitting to a Bull Mastodon.
Long story short-stacked my mtb 3weeks ago and cut my leg.Everything was fine (I even crowed about the bike coming off second best-not so). Healing nicely until six days ago when some naughty bacteria entered the wound and took up residence.Owing to my type 1 diabetes this turned into a kind germ party/ lower leg infection. I was feverish and shaky -saw the Doc on Saturday who said there was a distinct chance I could lose my leg.
Very reassuring.
I was sent directly to the hospital and remained there being used as a championship dartboard for canulation until this afternoon.Apparently I have feeble veins because its difficult to get a canula in.
Its been a serious few days.
Even more seriously I will not be able to celebrate Fes 's fantastic gift nor victory for at least two weeks as I'm off the grog.
Fes mate I can't express loudly enough my thanks for your generosity.I would very much like to sink a gigazillion lagers with you.
Spooky as it may seem I have had a similar ( not as expensive or fraught with litigation) with my eldest son Alec.
His mum (a kiwi) left me very acrimoniously when he was 4 and proceeded to make my life as miserable as she could.Alec remained in my custody tho. During that time (the worst days of my life) I stood against a tide of bad feeling that at times threatened to swamp me.I pretty much had to bend or break when every one of the golden rules of parental separation was broken and thrown in my face. What kept me going was the fact that I loved my son very much as only a Father can and had to remain strong for him.
He is now 20 and a fine, upstanding ,hardworking, heavily tattooed young man. I'm proud of him as I know you are of Alex. I also now have 2 younger sons with Janette who would be around your Alexs age.
Ironically the knife you are sending me will form part of our 14th wedding anniversary present. My wife is a practical person(opposites attract) and when asked what she would like for a gift said a good quality non stick frying pan and a new decent kitchen knife. Can't argue with that! So this knife will be worked although perhaps not for its original intended purpose. She was unimpressed (frazzen razzen bladeforums again) until I mentioned the crushed pumpkin seed handle which I must say is a fantastic and unique feature.
Right this is about as far as I got the other night trying to type on my phone with one hand, lying in bed with a canula in each arm when I pressed the wrong bit and the whole lot disappeared.
So as a special thank you I'm hosting a giveaway with certain meako twist-that is... I already know who the winner is.
He hails from the Shaky Isles and his dads name is Fes.
Here's the prize Alex hope you like it and get some use of it.Gotta go now and make a song about how slow the postie is again.
All the best
