Beladiri Silat Combatives: Ground Fighting
The Essence of Indonesian Combatives. A new release from Errol Deppe, a Silat stylist and Congress instructor under Hoch Hochheim who could double for Erik Paulson.

Currently available through Hoch's seminars as of this writing, Deppe is based in Illinois 847-634-6591.

This is 47 min tape covers Beladiri Silat ground fighting.

Intro (hand strikes, kicks)
Leg lever and Scissoring Takedowns (3 takedowns, breakdown of each, applications, followups)
The Tripod Position (2 kicks, rolls, drills)

Goes pretty well with JKD tapes ala Inosanto, Lucaylucay, Grody, the first B. Ricardson series. Good editing and camera angles, minimal replay, overall good production quality and sound.
ROSS, Capoeira, and Silat folks might appreciate the moves, sport grapplers might not like it at all. Silat leg takedowns and any scisscor leg type takedowns aren't for everybody. From the Silat I've seen being able to get down on the ground and get up is a skill in itself and that might take some conditioning. The kick drills here will help develop your leg strength and distancing so there's your mini-workout. Triangle theory of imbalancing isn't mentioned, it's assumed you know this. Interesting stuff but not for everyone.

Actually, it is a mutual arrangement with Hock and Errol. Hock is a certified Silat instructor under Errol and Errol is certified under Hock.

Let me add that Errol is an all-around great guy. I met Errol at Hock's big Archipelago camp and trained with him for 2 full days. He was appointed the leadership of this silat system by the grandmaster of the system. Errol definately knows his stuff and like Hock, he leans toward the more combative techniques rather than the flashy ones. He is definately worth checking out if you are into silat.

With all respect intended, is this guy Deppe realy lagit? I checked out his site, and asked around a bit about him, and he seemed to get his ranks very, very quick. The word Beledari is generic, it just means self-defense. So it's self defense silat, it's basically an art with no name. Maybe Deppe is good, but is his teacher lagit.

When you say legit, what exactly do you mean? Errol has spent a good portion of his life training in the arts under various instructors, wouldn't this make him legit?? I have trained with Errol on two occasions now. Both of these times I was asked to be his demonstration "dummy" for the seminars. After being thrown around over a dozen times by this guy I can honestly say that he is legit. He knows his stuff and is good at what he does. Also, I have to point out the fact that Hock Hochheim is supporting Errol and helping him to promote his Silat. I don't believe that Hock would support or promote someone that wasn't legit. As for Errol's instructor, there are quite a few authentic practitioners in the Philipines and in Indonesia. The fact that they are not famous or well known does not make them any less legit than famous practitioners here in the states.

If you would like a little more info on Errol check out this website- http://www.nsama.com and look under instructors. Also, if you really want to find out if he is legit I suggest that you check him out for yourself. Buy one of his videos, go to one of Hock's seminars were Errol will be teaching, or feel free to e-mail him or even phone him. Errol is a great guy and will be more than willing to answer any of your questions.

I don't know Errol Deppe, but I have met GM Frederico Fernandez who founded the Beladiri Silat system while travelling in the Philippines.

And he was good...
