Video: Becker Gathering - Jerry Fisk Master Class

good stuff to be sure.

next step: buy a KMG :>

so tempted to borrow Ethan's :> but he'd miss it ;)

ETA: oh hey, at 12:30, those are my knives that Jerry is turning into Badgers with stripes of missing coating. oh noes! :)

i'm thinking of painting the stripes yellow or something, and feathering the paint edges somehow. mmm!!!

I like how you start off with what seems to be SF Sam snoring away...... You have done a great job on the videos Doc!

Thanks for watching.
How could I not watch it. You open each episode with a that sweet apple catch..... There is the thing about you making great videos and the misses and I have really enjoyed watching and laughing. Murph and the scorpion almost got her to stop watching. But Ethan's cooking brought her back. Can't wait for the next installment!

Obviously I would love to have more female viewers. Why alienate 50% of the audience? I couldn't resist the scorpion though. It was too good. I am real squeamish about the gross eating thing though, so I promise that is about as bad as it will ever get. I try to include cooking segments in my stuff if possible. Aside from having Brad Pitt in my videos, ask your wife how else I could make them more interesting for her.

Sorry for the stupid question but I'm sorta a knife sharpening fng but is that a belt sander and what grit was used to start ?

Thanks

The only belt ever used during the entire video was a 230 grit belt. Misters Fisk and Becker seemed enthused about that belt. The stone was a Norton Fine India stone.

Nice vid!
Why does Jerry keep raising and lowering the angle of the knife? I'm sure he said it at one point of the video, but it's hard to hear with the grinder going.]

Yeah, I wasn't sure. Usually just using a belt sander with a little slack on the belt makes it convex.
I've just never seen anyone do that, but I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Interesting sequence, thanks for posting. So he goes from a 220-belt to a fine stone to leather to his palm if I understand correctly. After the belt sets the convex bevel or profile, does the stone create a micro-bevel? I guess I'm a little confused why the motion changes. With the belts, the sharpening medium is drug away from the edge but it's opposite with the stone. And then he goes back to dragging away with the leather and his palm. The results speak for themselves though so I guess I have a lot to learn.
