I was stunned. I happened upon a flipper video knife link and this title popped up on YouTube.com. Hmmm.....

OMIGOSH! Here is Bill Moran praising (and gently critiquing) Rodrigo's work. But, what drew me in was that this particular knife I own! It appears to be dated 2002.

I've watched it a number of times, and although the quality is poor, there is no mistaking the design and his comments on the sheath that it's this one. (Bought from KnifeArt.com a couple of years ago.)

Who posted this? One post from Brazil.

I won't be able to view it until I get home, but I can't wait. This is just too cool.

coop...all you have to do is cut off a little of the handle and it'll be perfect!.....thanks for posting....for someone who never got to meet mr. moran it was a treat to see such a video.....thanks for sharing....and wicked knife.....ryan

Congrats Coop! I enjoyed the Vid. What I really like about a video like this one, Is that you can hear for your self what was really said. In the recent two articles in Blade. The one about Loveless, there were a lot of mis-Quotes. Sad. When ask about what he thought about a few other makers in part two, what was quoted was not what he said. Same with the Jim Merritt part of the interview. Makes you wonder just how much of what you read in the Mag's is bull. Here we get to hear and "and see" it stright from the horses mouth. It doesn't get any better than that!

Thanks for the look at this video. Even more important now that Bill Moran is no longer with us. Mike

I met Bill Moran twice and the second time I showed him some of my early blades, including attempts at an ST23 and 24. What you seeon the video was what I experienced. He would tell you where you needed to make improvements, but he would also go above and beyond to tell you what you were doing RIGHT. That experience probably had a lot to do with me starting up forging again after a 9 month layoff and hopefully, the rest, as they say, will be history:D

Hello Coop! you found it! congratulations! This video was made by Dominique Beaucant, in VHS. I have a copy of this video, and ask my website designer to convert it to digital, and put it on my website. He decided to host it in Youtube before, and there's where it is untill these days. The knife is the "Flor de Lis" model, but is not the one you have. Your is damascus (the only one), and the knife of the vídeo is 52100 with stainless fornitures. The knife was ordered by Dominique, and he asked for a longer handle. I made the knife as he ordered, but I'd never think this would become such a "teasure" for me. When Mr. Moran said that the handle was 1/2" too long, I wait for Dominique to tell him that this was ordered that way... (I'm still waiting!:D)
But anyway, Thank's Dominique, for giving me such a gift.
And thank you Coop, for posting it here.

Best regards!

Hi Rodrigo,

Well, thank you for clarifying this one. Mine has fleur de lis everywhere, so no wonder I would mistake it.

One one hand I am disappointed because it's not the EXACT knife, on the other, my knife has better handle ratio ;), has a damascus blade, and is even more current. :D:p

Still a great video for all of us, and for you. Thanks for taking the time to enlighten us.

Man, what a neat video! Thanks for posting it, Coop. It is so cool to see this. Not only viewing the critique by him, but getting to see the inside of his shop.
Glad you stumbled upon this, and I really like your damascus version of Rodrigo's fluer de lis!
