Cool, I had a tough time deciding between the new Recon 1 and the AK 47. In the end I went with the AK 47 and love it. Probably won't be my last knife of the bunch either!

Thanks. I like tip down on bigger folders. Anyway, won't matter. I'll just have to find a technique.:D

Thanks for your thoughts on this one. I have one on the way from ebay, which will be my first Cold Steel. At under $60, these knives are priced right.

thank you for the review !

my recon 1 clip point arrived me today and im very impressed
the tanto version is on my list.

bye

Would you say this new version is better or worse than the previous version? I have the previous version and i think that the more aggressive handle design might be uncomfortable with the already abrasive checkering on the handle.

I have a new Recon 1 and I can tell you that it is one of the most comfortable knives I have handled. Which is saying a lot since I have owned literally hundreds of knives.

I own a 1st gen. Recon, but don't consider the handle to be very abrasive at all. If you feel that way about the old Recon handle, don't buy a Hatamoto. Roughed up G10; almost like sandpaper, all on purpose, to help with grip.

No, no plans to get an AK-47.. ;)

Well, crud! I may have to buy another one just to send it to you for testing. I'm on the 2011 list for a Demko custom to be built on an AK-47, and I need some entertainment to help me with my wait time--which you helped to create by filling up the wait list w/all those purty pitchers of your new folder, grrrrrr. :D

Ever considered a career in knife marketing, Ankerson?

Anyhoo, I love the fact that you always give CS knives a fair shake by evaluating them on real world performance testing rather than the personality of the company owner. I've always found them to be a great value for the money.

Having received my Recon 1, and can say that its a pretty dang good bang for the buck. The back lock takes more effort and travel than I am used to, but thats part of what makes it a strong lock. And I agree with nutnfancy that the G10 is a pocket shredder, so I may have to hit it with the dremel. But it does grab the hand well, and feels like its built to last.
