In 2005, totally on the fly, Steven Garsson and I interviewed the legend at the Art Knife Invitational in San Diego...

All KnifeTV Interviews can now be seen on our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAvSCwPwK8aGncN2VQm2ZLg

Links to our content also at www.KnifeTV.com

Here is Loveless Interview: https://youtu.be/iDJ6_Xq5KMc

Thought it was time to share with all! We had no lights and did it on the fly but the audio is great as are Bob's insights.

(Kohai999 also does a great job on the interview IMO!)

It's a pleasure to watch an interview where the person is allowed to answer at his pace, rather than being "pestered" with questions... Many times today the interviewer asks the questions in such a way that it forces the subject to accept premises that aren't even relevant, or even worse, true... Steven asked open ended questions, and then just shut up.... For me, I think it was the first time I had actually heard Bob speak, so even hearing his voice was interesting...

He was opinionated about what he thought of us collectors, but ultimately agreed that it was also good for him personally, and put a few more beans on his table...

I enjoyed seeing it, and I'm sure someone will come in later and say something to cause a ruckus.... :D

Good job Steven, Best Regards, Rich Slaughter

Glad you guys enjoyed it. STeven really did a great job and I agree 100% that his expertise and interview style really enhanced it. We wanted to do a channel called KnifeTV and possibly it's still a good idea.

HERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE SHIP BOB WAS ON, WHERE HE MADE HIS FIRST KNIVES FROM PACKARD SPRINGS, RUNNING AGROUND...

http://www.fleetsheet.com/Passaic.htm

He talks about the "Passaic Sun" in the interview! WHERE THE FIRST LOVELESS KNIFE WAS MADE!!!

Please understand that I didn't go to the AKI planning on interviewing R.W. Loveless(it was my first AKI, have been to four of them since)....that was Adam's idea......as was posting this up on BFC.

I don't want to be famous, or even infamous.....life just works out weird sometimes.

What it was, though, and what Adam happily DIDN'T get on camera was three hours of Bob's time, where we smoked a bunch of cigarettes and he told me the entire genesis and history of his association with Gerber Legendary Blades, including Al Mar.

Will have to write that down sometime....Bob was one of a kind....I miss him a lot....just because, as I got to know him better as a person, I got to see the same truths that some others have mentioned....damned rare for someone at the top of their game to be that honest, sadly.

I was absolutely flabbergasted that he had already spent so much time with me that day, and that he was willing to go on camera for an interview, just time to shut up and hold on for dear life, lol!!

This was made 10 years ago, and Bob passed away almost 5 years ago, RIP....ruckus ain't gonna change anything....didn't change Bob, ain't gonna change me.....who knows how much time we have left? Gotta do what you gotta do, everything else be damned!!!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Great interview Steven! So glad you got this for those of us who never met the man. Awesome to hear him tell the story of his beginnings in knife making. You did a fine job letting him lead as he wished.. Loved the way it ended too. "Any last words?".. "Nope!"
Ha! :)

Bob was such an innovator and he continued to evolve as a human being as he got older.
Thanks for the vdo.

This was fantastic.

THANK YOU

Can't tell you how much watching this meant to me.

3:53 what did you see to warrant a "my word"

We did the interview at the juncture of a sit down cafe and escalator in a very nice hotel, many extremely hot young women running around, and one caught Bob's eye.

If you couldn't tell from the "Double Nude" logo, Bob liked the wimmin's, bless him!

This was fantastic.

THANK YOU

Matt, I gotta say that at 18+ years of collecting knives, I thought that I was "there".....and then I met Phil Lobred.

I can pretty much walk to his house from mine. He has Parkinson's disease, and he gets frustrated and cranky, and he is also 71-ish years old......but being his friend for the last 12 years changed my life in so many ways, especially the way the "Old Guard" treated me.

I have phone numbers, letters, e-mails....from people who wouldn't have spit on me if I was on fire since I met Phil....getting to know Bob Loveless was just part of it. I go to Phil's house often and have become part of his family.....and I can't tell you how much that means to ME.

So far, have been able to take J.D. Smith and David Mirabile over there, and a few others....and just the expression on their faces was something that is priceless. Phil is an "odd duck" like many of us, but once you are his friend(same for me), he will bend over backwards to help you in any way he can.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

This summarizes everything the knifemaking community should be about.

Thanks, bud.
