I don't know if this discussion exists. I'm having one hell of an issue trying to find a search feature through this VBulletin craziness. But this may interest those who haven't seen it.

I was watching Heroes not all that long ago and with this new season they added Ray Park as a knife wielder with the special ability of superspeed. Of course we know Ray Park as being more famously known for his role as the dual blade Sith from the Star Wars films.

Anyhow, there's a scene where Ray comes to retrieve an item of interest. I wont give much away in case someone reading hasn't gotten spun up yet. But look what he's wielding:

What do you guys make of the style of Khukuri just from the short clip? He mentioned in an interview that he used to practice alone with "Asian knives" and I can only guess this was one of the types he used. Apparently he brought this to the part and encouraged the use of that exact style blade.

Good idea? Bad? Interesting to see on the bigger screen (a more mainstream tv show)? With the superspeed there's not much room for technique or any kind of real martial style... lots of chops and swings blocked by the same (Peter the other character ends up taking his power, which his ability is absorbing powers). I'm wondering if they plan to go further with the Khukuri (they do show them in multiple episodes now).

Anyway, thought this would be interesting for those that enjoy these knives and may not be a fan of the show.

I'm watching the Heroes DVD at the moment. I'm up to Ep 4 and he has really only made an appearance in the double length season opening.

These knives look light, but not the long thin sirupati shape. they are flat at the sides and don't have the fullers, and have a ground blade.

made me laugh how many he was carrying under his jacket since Peter managed to wrestle two off him and he reached around his back and pulled out two more. LOL

This show and the third Resident Evil film have some good looking khuk moves. They really do seem to add a flare of their own.

I have mixed feelings.

I like that such a unique blade style is finally getting some recognition.

But I have a feeling that it's going to gain the visual appeal of Hollyweird, and end up getting "Dweebed" like the Katana with all kinds of stupid crap being done with them, when the reality of them is impressive enough on its own.

There is also an old series called Kindred: The Embraced. In one of the scenes, the prince of the city beheads a renegade vampire for his crimes with a khukuri. You can see the blade clearly for most of the scene too. I haven't really done any YouTube searching for the scene though. I just saw the show again on SyFy and noticed the blade for the first time.

Yeeah, I loved that show, followed it in high school. I also rewatched it a while ago. He does indeed wield a khukri in that fight, but he actually uses the renegade vampire's own battle axe to behead him if I remember correctly :). Cool scene in any case.

It is seen twice actually, once when he is beheading the guy who was turned and then went rogue and had to be put down and then again in the episode you are thinking of when the Nosferatu guy decided to kill a baby. He took the ceremonial shotgun and Khukuri and went down to TCB but wound up in the end chopping his head off with his axe instead. I actually have the whole series on DVD as well. It is amazing how much the DVDs are worth too. I may well just sell them and buy myself more khukuries. :)
