I just shot some footage of the Manticore abrasive file in action. Just like with my old video on the Lansky stone of the same pattern, I played baseball with a rock and a machete. The rock wasn't as rounded as the last time, and I struck a more solid blow, so the damage was much worse. In spite of that, the Manticore completely filed it out in a hair under 4:30, which is less than half the time it took with the Lansky version. This baby EATS steel.

So, can you compare how this would've gone differently with....
* a 10" Nicholson bastard file
* a 10" Baryonyx Bull Thistle scythe stone

The Nicholson would have been a hair faster, but not by much, and would have used up a greater percentage of its total service life, as well as mandating pushing strokes (rather than permitting scrubbing.) The Bull Thistle would be a totally unsuitable choice for damage this severe. It could handle a minor to moderate ding or roll but nothing of this magnitude where the edge has been crumpled more than 1/8" deep into the bevel.

Sounds cool. Personally I don't need one of these (as in NEED) because I have a Nicholson and a Bull Thistle. But, I still want one. Baryonyx will be the death of my sharpening budget. :D
