Santa was good to me this year. A Mora Robust...

Thanks for the vid. I am just now getting into the Mora. Ordered a #2 today. My trouble with them was no lanyard hole, so I am going to take a rifle swivel stud and put it on the butt of my #2 and tie a lanyard to that.

With a #2 you could probably get away with drilling a hole through the end. The tang stops short of the end.

Nice blade Arson ....I drilled through some 511 handles a few years back, went through them like butter.

Has anyone else had any trouble sharpeneing them? I've got one here that is slightly convexed

Twenty strokes along the corners of the coarse grey Sharpmaker rods (blade end), for each side, is enough to get them very sharp, very fast. I don't even bother with the white fine rod. This for the my 511's, the stainless and Heavy Duty Companions.

There is plenty of space to put a lanyard hole in the handle, even enough to get a double loop of 550 through.

Here's mine.

Yeah, that works fine for the other Moras I own, but how about for the robust?

If referring to upnorth's approach, the HD Companions are just recolored Robusts in a standard Companion sheath, so it's just a palette/sheath swap with the same knife. He's used the method on his HD Companions so it would presumably apply just the same to your Robust. :)

Looks like you got yourself a scandivex. I would maintain it with sand paper on a mouse pad.
Most of my moras end up slightly convex due to my method of sharpening.

I love the palm swell on the handle, and that sheath looks more than serviceable. I can see a firesteel getting attached to that front stud.

Yes sir. I do the same on the 511, stainless Companion, and H.D. Comp. To be honest I prefer the thinner stock of the regular Companion for slicing. I find the the shoulder on the Heavy Duty (robust) deflects the blade off on a downward angle when slicing. I saw this when slicing potatoes at home. I am no sharpening guru that's for sure, but I can keep most of my blades slicing paper or close enough to it. It has taken me a while to get there. I have still never touched a strop in my life. One day I suppose.

This is over my head. I should come back and read this thread when I have more time. I think that I'm learning once again on this forum, which is always wonderful.

Scandi= knife community slang for zero saber grind (flat zero saber by default)
Scandivex= knife community slang for convex zero saber grind.

 To be honest I'm not really that interested in the minutae of knife grinds, but I should try to learn some of this stuff. Kind of like reading a vehicles operating manual.

It's all fairly simple stuff honestly. It mostly comes down to how high the grind is, if it's flat/hollow/convex, and the presence or absence of secondary bevels. Most of the rest is just describing combinations of those features under one name.

Maybe it's not so bad then. I actually had a mental picture of the angles as I read them. I must be picking something up on these forums.
