I didn't know about forward lanyard holes and their utility, I don't get to the woods very often but now if I do I know more safety, thanks for this.

I would even entertain the notion of making a forward hole in a knife that doesn't come eqipped with one.

Thanks. :)

That's why I made it.

Using high performance knives without looking at safety is like putting a hot motor in a car and not upgrading the brakes.

I stabbed myself good last year and have a minor but permanent injury, I would not like to be losing blood out in the woods although I hope I would think to be prepared for that aspect as well.

Would there be any advantage to using a cord going through both a front and a rear lanyard hole, does anyone do that?

Some guys use D Guards on their Busses, but prefer a Lanyard myself.

What do you think about the "around the thumb and over the back of the hand" method for lanyards coming out of the base of the handle? I have been trying that method out a little, and I am still on the fence about it.

I have tried different methods and found the forward lanyard to be the most secure overall.

There is a good reason why Blade Sports uses it.

It works the best. :D

Thanks for the Video. I haven't had the chance to try a forward lanyard yet, but I'll be looking out now.

Ankerson, you're doing a good service here.
Many thanks!

I've never used lanyards and your video just changed my mind.
Safety is a mighty good thing to think about before you start swinging for obvious reasons.
A while back I went out and did some chopping tests with my Spyderco Forrester. I figured since I'm a woodworker familiar with the way wood SHOULD behave I pretty much was safe.
On one chop the wood exploded in my face and a chunk impaled my cheek.
It sank into the meat pretty solidly.
If I wasn't wearing glasses I most definitely would have damaged an eye, possibly lost it.
It was a wake up call, that's for sure.

Thanks Man. :)

Just be safe.

Thanks Jim,

Like another member posted about drilling out a forward hole - I have two "CS cheap machetes" and I'm going to drill a forward layard hole in both of them - soft steel & should be no big deal.

I don't feel secure with the rear lanyard. I haven't put a lanyard on my BWM yet. Do you use 550 paracord? Have you ever tried leather lanyards? They look & feel a little softer on the wrist, just from feeling some leather cords (haven't tried 'em).

Thanks again for your great videos!
