available through http://www.dogbrothers.com, alternate review at defend.net's FMA forum
The 3rd in the new Dogbrothers series, this video focuses on evasion, particularly against knee hits and evading while hitting. The Elders (Crafty, Salty, and Top Dog) are joined by Hot Dog and Shaggy, special appearance by a CS Boar Spear. There's some fight footage,
including a fight not shown in "A Gathering of the Pack", and older interviews with the Elders.
The BD
Intro (3 min, 1 interview, fight footage)
A (Intro to the Metronome, Lower Canine, Snaggletooth drills, Knee attack & defense clinic)
B (Snaggletooth partner drill, inside and outside, Lameco #1-4 patterns)
C (Lameco #5 pattern, Elders interviews, Tatang Ilustrisimo footage)
Production quality is great, editing tighter, the only gripe was with some of the fight footage. The sound of the slow mo replays of the fights sound like cows in a pasture.
This is an intermediate tape aka you better know your basics and it wouldn't hurt if you knew the common FMA terms. I've met folks who thought the Dogbrothers were way out there or had no finesse. Far from it, they are as much traditional as they are modern in technique and attitude. BTW, there's footage of Master Antonio "Tatang" Ilustrisimo teaching Lester "Surf Dog" Griffin in Manila at the age of 91 and very aggressive and fluid as was reported.
This tape is more for sustained, progressive training and is meant to balance out the hard and fast material. Also there is an element of swordfighting particularly in the section concerning leg attacks and defense. The tape goes well with DB and Lameco material
as well as K. Worden's Renegade JKD and Knife for Personal Protection #2 if you adapt it to the knife.
There is also the plug for Lameco gear like in R. Balicki's The Defensive Edge #3 and fight footage showing the do's and dont's of leg attacks including a fighter getting kneecapped.
Only real complaint is the delivery time, another forumite had the same problem when ordering the new tapes last year. I've ordered from DBMA before and it took 2 weeks, this time it took a month and 10 days.
