I'd like to thank eda_koppo and K.Williams for turning me on to this tape. I wasn't a big fan of Guro Lucaylucay but he was fast, explosive, and had very subtle footwork. I'm not a big pocket stick fan, but appreciate its' usefulness in an anti-knife environment.
On this tape, Lucaylucay and M. Stewart are joined by R. Lamoureaux, W. Bennett and C. Gonzaga The Hand Position section was really more a section on entries but added raking and the "sap slap" that M. Janich
wroted about recently. Pinch, Pressing & Locks features Lamoureaux and Bennett demonstrating some entries and takedowns. It was okay but I wanted to see W. Bennett use his height advantage against R. Lamoureaux more.
Single Sumbrada Drills is a real simple and fun section ala Drawpoint while Hubad Lubad had a variation I've never seen before. The Chi Sau section was an interesting variation, I've heard that some JKD folks in New Mexico have done this with blades. The Lamoureaux flow was about combining the drills and taught in 2 sections.
Stick vs kicks/punches starts the free flow section, Lamoureaux and Stewart use a boxing structure and some wide footwork all the way up to the Play Sparring section. Sumbrada Flow has Lucaylucay and Lamoureaux mix it up and combine the drills, a good close up of footwork in this section.
Firstly, this tape is best for intermediate and advanced folks, it's assumed you've got your basic hand strikes, throws, etc. down. Combatives folks will find some of the moves aren't mean enough and I agree, even if were talking non-lethal. Just my opinion.
This tape goes well with the Gunting Series, Comtech Drawpoint Series, and any FMA or Balisong material. Production quality and sound were good, there's even some funny outtakes at the end.
