Quite well. You'll notice that the handle is angled in relation to the bit, which brings the hand to the balance point without the need for a poll.

That is a really sweet shape and profile. It also looks like it could share the advantage of a tomahawk where it's not hard to make a new handle in the bush and slide it down through the eye. Very refreshing to see an offering with a different take on the axe than what we're used to.

Exactly--the slip-fit handle allows for the same advantage as a tomahawk but with a true axe geometry. Slip-fit handles are traditional in Italy and France.

For those that missed it, here's a video of it's little 350g sister.

You can tell I've never used a tomahawk: how exactly do these slip-fit handles work? they are tapered to match the taper of the eye, and the head slides up from the bottom of the handle? I assume you have to drive the head to get it to stick? How sturdy is that for a full sized axe?

It's quite sturdy. Indeed, the handle is tapered to pass through the eye, just like on a pickaxe. To seat the head firmly, just tap the top of the handle against a firm surface a few times and you're good to go. Centrifugal force continues to force the head outwards onto the flared end of the handle during use, as well.

Thanks! More cleanup to do today and I'll hopefully get some good footage of a French pattern billhook in the process.
