Finally! A new Spyderco that doesn't use those thin film-type washers. (All due respect to Sal and crew, nylon/teflon, or bronze phosphor washers are the way to go. IMHO, of course.)
Yes, the Viele 2 has a nice set of what looks to be teflon or nylon washers. The action is silky smooth, and the lock-up is perfect. Of course, it's wicked sharp. I was always a big fan of the first Viele, but thought it just a bit too large. This one's about right for me size wise.
It's a great design, and a classic Spyderco in my mind. I love the polished micarta on the front.
However, and this is my only "however" with this model, the G-10 on the clip side is a bit too grippy. It certainly grabs onto your pockets, which is good for retention, but may become a pants-eater before long. Also, while an interesting contrast in textures, the G-10 simply isn't as nice as the micarta on the other side. This model is such a smooth and classy piece, I would have preferred matching micarta on the clip side, or at least smooth G-10 as opposed to the grippy tactical variant.
That's my single grip about this one. Otherwise, it's a welcome addition to my rotation. Good job Spyderco, now how about a limited run with micarta on both sides?
