Finally! A new Spyderco that doesn't use those thin film-type washers. (All due respect to Sal and crew, nylon/teflon, or bronze phosphor washers are the way to go. IMHO, of course.)

Yes, the Viele 2 has a nice set of what looks to be teflon or nylon washers. The action is silky smooth, and the lock-up is perfect. Of course, it's wicked sharp. I was always a big fan of the first Viele, but thought it just a bit too large. This one's about right for me size wise.

It's a great design, and a classic Spyderco in my mind. I love the polished micarta on the front.

However, and this is my only "however" with this model, the G-10 on the clip side is a bit too grippy. It certainly grabs onto your pockets, which is good for retention, but may become a pants-eater before long. Also, while an interesting contrast in textures, the G-10 simply isn't as nice as the micarta on the other side. This model is such a smooth and classy piece, I would have preferred matching micarta on the clip side, or at least smooth G-10 as opposed to the grippy tactical variant.

That's my single grip about this one. Otherwise, it's a welcome addition to my rotation. Good job Spyderco, now how about a limited run with micarta on both sides? :D

I plan to get the new Viele soon. I was concerned about tthe clip side G-10 and i would probably prefer micarta too. Still it won't be a big issue with me because I will mainly carry the Viele wearing jeans or khaki type of pants.

I was fortunate enough to handle one of these in person yesterday and came away unimpressed. The knife is too small and too thick. On the positive side, the action is butter smooth and the blade is Spydie sharp. May be worth the money for someone that lives in a gestapo jurisdiction concerning blade length and is accustomed to THICK folding knives.

I took a pass.

I picked one up today I can see the criticism about it being thick but sometimes it's nice to hold a knife whose handle has some girth. I like the new smaller size. The old Viele was a really great looking knife that I could never use at work or in most genteel settings. The new Viele definitely wouldn't be out of place at work or at church.
