Viele liner lock moves all the way to the right.

Got this knife from another forum member and the knife is in great shape but the liner lock moves so far to the right it rests against the other liner. I love the knife and it is for lighter carry and is otherwise in great condition and from what I can tell it has not been previously abused. Is this problem such that it needs to be addressed and can it be addressed as the blade is pinned. I'm happy with the knife as is but if it could be fixed without wasting a lot of time, money or resources that may be worth sending it in. Recommendations? Thanks for any info!

Do you know if that is the older or newer model? The newer one should have the adjustable pivot that Spyderco or possibly you could adjust to fix that problem, never seen it on a new model though. I don't know how to go about it on the older one, as I am not terribly familiar with the construction of that model, I do know it is a bit different than the new one though, and I have seen the older model with that exact problem.

tique,
No adjustable pivot on this one. It is pinned through so that was my question as well. Didn't know 'if' it was fixable and certainly don't want to put Spyderco through much to fix it as I did buy it used and it works just fine for my needs. But, if there is some knife guru trick that can be done then I'm game. ???

I'm not really sure if you can help it or not. I will try to go out this weekend and find one of my friends that has one with that problem and see if there is anything that can be done. Meanwhile you might want to call Spyderco and see if you can get in touch with the warranty dept. to see if they have any ideas, they know more about that stuff than most of us can ever hope to.

It is a problem with that particular model as far as I'm aware...the one I had was on the way out when I got it and no way would I flick it open. I reckon Sal's elves will fix it for you

I think you may have the original model. While I don't have that version and can't say much about it, I do have the updated Viele and can give you my personal observation.

I don't think that the problem you posted would happen with the updated Viele because the locking liner slides into an angled "slot" until it snugs against a machined stop (approximately 1/3 the thickness of the blade) located on the opposite side of the blade. Might sound confusing but if you saw it you'd realize that it's a brilliant idea.

If you like the Viele design, you owe it to yourself to check out the update. No, I don't work for Spyderco nor am I being paid to rave about this knife. I just love this one. As I've mentioned in another thread, I think Spyderco should receive some kind of award for their efforts on this remake.

I love my (first-gen) Viele, and the liner does indeed travel further over than I'd like to see. (Although not all the way.) However, it still locks up way more tightly than many of the other liner locks that I own, and since I don't really carry or use the piece hard I don't mind so much. It mostly just sits there locked open on my knife shelf. I still may get a serrated "new" version sometime since I like the design so much and can imagine just how much nicer it would be with the new lockwork.

A special edition with CF scales would put this piece near the top of my "must have" list, (hint hint.)
