Does anyone carry these for self defense? I am interested in the RT-6. They look nice and I have handled them but only briefly. I recall the locking bar and liners being a bit thin for self defense purposes. But this was just an observation based on a very cursory glance.

They seem more like tactical "collectibles" than street-worthy martial arts knives (I know, any knife can cut and be used as a weapon). Can anyone provide further insight into Viele folders?

Ok...how about this: Viele RT-6 or Terzuola Dress ATCF (ebony handles, damsacus bolsters, ATS blade)?

I really like Howard’s designs, but I have to agree that they aren’t even close to heavy duty. I’d put em in the “gentleman’s tactical” category (or is that an oxymoron?). My “Silent Partner” is a thing of beauty, but feels almost delicate compared to many of the “Pitbull” tacticals I’ve handled.
