I was talking to a friend who was in the war.He explained a knife that was curved like a sickle but not that cureved. It had a swiggly edge that helped in cutting. The men who used it were trained for 7 years ,he explained them as Vietnamese Ninjas. Can someone help ID this knife???? Frank C....:D

Frank,

That sound like a Kris. It's a short sword and sidearm, but any association with ninjas, mutant or otherwise, is entirely fictitious.

n2s

It could also be an edged weapon that I had sharpened at some time in my life. There is some discussion that I "invented" serrated edges. Actually, I am still trying for a straight edge.

They weren't ninjas in actuality but were trained in such,to sneak behind our lines and kill our U.S. men from what i can gather.:) Kismet I don't know about that one.:D Anyone else???????;) :D :

And I did not see anything remotely like you are talking about. All of the knives that I saw from the cong or the North Vietnamese were rather crude utility type knives with riveted slab handles and about 5 to 6" blades. Perhaps some of the officers somewhere may of had something a bit more fancy. Almost every thing that I saw in Viet Nam were made for hard use.:)

maybe he saw something that came from the Chinise,They did help didn't they. But then again he was there in the last few years of the war.:confused:N2S mentioned something about a KRIS.

They supplied Ammo and supplies for sure. We found some dead dudes from manchuria with the hangy down mustaches. Died of the plague. Naturally they had no equipment with the bodies.:)

I think it was a supped up sickle from the farm. They were very good at using everything they could find ,excuse me got to walk the DOG.

Every knife Ive seen associated with Vietnamese during the war has been a dha. Dunno why, as they do have other knives and swords, but generally in the same way talibons flooded the market after WWII, dhas were popular bring backs with Vietnam vets. Here's a link on a good article on Vietnamese Swords, by PHilip Tom and Scott Rodel http://www.eriksedge.com/vietnamswords.html

The people picture is old. they don't dress like that much any more. They have become a bit Americanized. Things were pretty well torn up when I left the in late 68. Didn't see no such weapons.

I will take these names of knives and mention it too him and see what sounds familiar to him.:cool:Will follow up on this.

most likely a rice sickle , talked to my partner, who's a Viet machineist and he agreed. Pappy on my last trip back {1999} the only female's wearing Aho Dai's were the Elite's children in private school.Every one is dressed in American fashion.

I read an article in Blade magazine, I think, about a Viet Namese kami -- pretty much like a village kami in Nepal. Crude but tougher than hell. In my desk drawer I have a referee whistle, brass with the "red star" on it, that was cut off the neck of a dead Viet Cong officer by RayC and found its way to the Titanic.
