Can anyone tell me if Gerber ever factory blued any of they're Mark II blades? In the early 70's. I have a Gerber Mark II that dates to 1973 and was told by the seller that it was factory blued. It is not a dark gun blue, but a medium grey blue.

Any help or comments would be most appreciated.

Thank You,
Hal

Thanks Jeff, but theres nothing there about factory blued blades by Gerber in the 70's. The Gerberguy is who I purchased the Mark II from. I don't doubt his word, I just have not seen or heard of this from any other source. He doesn't answer emails that often either.

If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Hal

...it was that they provided the bluing kit, so you could do it yourself.

Pete, aka 'Gerberguy' is out of the country until spring, but he does answer his emails sporadically...

Gerber direct is pretty much useless for providing information...and that's a shame, but that's life.

Harvey Riesberg is the MK II Guru, but I've lost contact with him since he moved...(Harv, we need to talk, are ya out there buddy?)

Long term Gerber employees Jim Wehrs and Doug Hutchins, now owner/operators of Lone Wolf knives could probably answer your question if my answer isn't satisfactory. http://www.lonewolfknives.com/store/pages/home.shtml

Hope that helps...

Thanks Mel, That does help alot. It looks like a home made blue job, although it was done very well. Last I spoke with Pete he was between Costa Rica and the states, but still could not get him to follow up. Thanks for the link.

Cheers,
Hal

As if it wasn't bad enough with collecting Randall's, Al Mar SERE's, Applegate/Fairbairn fixed blades and Jess Horn folders...we also collect older Gerbers, mostly FFH's and MK II's...(sshhh, don't tell anyone, ok?) ;)

If you need more info, shoot me an email and I'll tell you what I know, if I know...

Mel

Thanks Mel, will do, I've read many of your Randall posts and have just broke into collecting them as funds allow.

Thanks,
Hal
