Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk head attachment?

I'm looking for information on how exactly the head is held on. I just received a vietnam tactical tomahawk and I see that it takes a hex key for removing/replacing the head.

What happens if your in the field and you break your handle(doubtful with the Acetal handle)? Is the eye(i think thats the word?) set at an angle so that you can replace the handle with a piece of wood like you can on the Rogers Rangers tomahawks?

Any info would be helpful :)

Sir,

The allen bolt in the handle stem functions as what we call an "omni-directional" wedge...if removed, the head would not come off the handle. It would remain fixed in place, tightly.

The bolt keeps the shelf we precision machine in the handle fully spread over the ledge that is milled in the head, so that when the handle is torqued to remove the head from whatever it is embedded in, it stays tight.

To date, we have not had one instance of head attachment failure using this system...not one. Could it happen...yes, given the right set of variables. However, those variables have never presented themselves in a "real life" situation as yet, to our knowledge.

A field expedient handle could indeed be fashioned from wood, depending on the resourcefulness and will of the person requiring it.

Hope this helps...
