Let me start by saying I have owned several of ATC's products over the years, including one of the first wooden handled Vietnam tomahawks... Great items all.

Currently, I have one of the Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk's with the acetal handle. I really enjoy the feel of this particular weapon and I have carried it around my property and used it for light chopping chores on several occasions.

For those of you who purchased one of the VTAC's, with the newest handle (or perhaps better stated, the "final generation" of the Vietnam Tomahawk concept...), AND owned one of the Vietnam Tactical Tomahawks, which one do you prefer?

For myself, I have no romantic attachment to any mechanical item. I have no problem selling off the older model if the newest VTAC version is markedly better. I say this because the current manufacturer of the VTAC, Fehrman Knives, is just a short ride down the interstate from my home here in Ohio. I am tempted to make the drive down there next week and purchase one of the newest models, especially since he has offered me a discount for being a law enforcement officer.

So, I would appreciate any input from those of you who have experience with both of these tomahawks. From all of the descriptions I have read, it seems the newest generation is ever so slightly smaller and the greatest improvement is in the handle; in its material and its attachment to the head. I have read of no differences in the cutting/chopping ability of either head.

And yes, I'm well aware of the "just by both of them" option; but I see no reason to have more than one...

Thank you in advance for your time...

Aren't they the same 'hawk? I thought ATC just partnered with Fehrman to produce the existing LaGana tactical (VTAC). Please correct me if I am incorrect.

The major difference is in the type and attachment of the handle. I am interested in those who have used both because the newest model is lighter and the configuration of the handle is different. I like the feel of my current one, but I am open to the other if it is markedly better.

jack said it correctly, the new VTACs have a better shaft/hawk head adjoinment. (sp) i dont think anything can touch the VTAC, all things considered... but ask hatchetjack, i am VERY biased.... ;)

I have both types. I actually prefer the older style for its stiffness and gripability. Attachment on the old style seems just as good as the new. Both are great, but I would not replace the old with the new (if you do decide to get rid of your old one, let me know - I'd take it if the price was right.)

Thank you all for your comments...

The more I think about this and read some of the past postings, this comparison is probably rendered moot if I don't plan to throw the hawk.

I am just about to go out the door and head south and examine a few of the new ones. The good thing about buying direct from the manufacturer is that hopefully I can go through and "cherry pick" the one I want.

The great thing about this forum is that if I do pick the new one and then ultimately decide to sell one or the other, there is always an outlet.

But then again, I do have two hands...
