Hey guys, so I've decided to take this route as I can't afford a full-tang RMJ or Winkler, and it seems to be an overall decent design. I was curious which offerings are going to be the best bang for the buck. I like the American Tomahawk LaGana, but I'm not sure how durable the polymer handle is, how long it lasts, or if it's possible to replace with wood if it breaks. I was also curious of the cold steel, since I had heard you could replace the handle relatively easily if it had problems, and as I've modded a CS before it shouldn't be THAT hard. Thanks.

The ATC hawk can take more abuse than a person could dish out imo and i'm sure if something failed Fehrman Knives would fix it for you. There is a video of it being ran over by a truck bending the handle which comes back to true.

The CS have always had complaints of loose heads and poor grinds. The Lagana heads use wedges like a hatchet instead of a taper like on the other hawks.

The Lagana Tacticals I bought a few years ago used hex bolts instead of wedges. The wooden version used a traditional wedge.

In fact that's one of the problems-advantages of the Lagana design. The small eye means a lighter head overall, but then less material to hold onto. Then again, if ifs good enough for hammers it's probably tough enough ... I doubt it would have got it's NSN if it broke during testing.

Depending on your intended final purpose, you can get a knifemaker to regrind the Lagana edge into a less durable, but more utility edge such as a nice convex. They're done pretty obtuse from the factory - great for smashing stuff, but less effective on wood.

Have a few American Tomahawk V'Tac's have abused them for years....No Complaints !.
