I was able to handle some one else's newer Pioneer II and was impressed by how the exterior lever that protruded now disappeared entirely: it is just a small black slide now that is unobtrusive

The G-10 on the newer has a rougher feel to it and should give a better grip in wetter conditions. The sides felt a little thinner and the knife still had a good heft to it. Time will tell if the newer design will be bombproof: it sure looked solid!

I liked the old version a lot, but the newer one's a little more ergonomic in terms of closing IMO.
