[Last year there I saw the movie "Pathfinder" about the vikings in pre-Columbus America. The movie was mediocre (at best:D) but it gave me an idea for a knife. For me the only one who could make that was Arpad Bojtos. I contacted him and we met at the Milan Knife Show. He brought along a sketch, we discussed the knife in detail and we decided on the knife in the middle. The theme of the knife would be the discovery of America by the vikings.

Arpad is one of the nicest men I have ever met and certainly one of the most talented knifemakers in the world.

After a while he mailed me a couple of pictures of the progress.

Yesterday I received an other mail from him with the final result and here it is.

The overall length is 34 cm (13+ inches), the blade is Damasteel, the carved steel is 420SS, the handle is walrus ivory and buffalo horn. The front of the knife depicts a viking warrior landing on shore and the back depicts a fight between native americans and vikings. The stand is made of forged iron and wood (I don't know which yet).

Great new knife, Marcel, from a greatly talented knife artist. Give Arpad
my best wishes when you speak to him!
Why don't you try the coming Blade Show, at least for once? I think you
will truly enjoy this amazing experience - and it would be great to get to
meet you......

All the best, David Darom (ddd)

Thanks guys for the compliments...I will forward them to Arpad.

The images are sized down now.

Stunning!

That would be the center piece of almost any collection....:)

Amazing piece. I love the stand.

I'd like to see bigger pics (800 pixels across is a good idea).

Thanks,

JD

Very nice Marcel. Would sure like to see your collection some day. I'm a sucker for a knife with a nice display stand.

Arpad is amazing in using all handtools in the creation of his masterpieces. It's my understand that he doesn't even use a vice to hold his work for carving but a pitch pan.
IMO, he's among the very top designers in the world.

I'm on this praise train, too. There is sure no disputing the term 'handmade' or 'custom' on this piece! :D

Congrats as always, Marcel.

That is just incredible. The stand and knife complement each other perfectly.
