Hi,

I just hope I'm in the right forum, if not I apologize. A friend of mine asked me to look for something called; "Viking Raider Axe" made by "Back Jack". As I talked with him on a very bad cellphone connection I'm not 100% sure of the name or brand/maker.
Any one knows anything about this "axe", is it still available?

Any info or help with the name would be greatly appreciated.

RiSK,

You are in the right forum. Unfortunately I don't have much of an answer for you. I have seen the axe you are speaking of a long time ago and do not think it in production anymore. Hopefully someone will have an answer for you. Stick around, I am sure someone will know.

I can't tell you where to locate that exact item, but H & B Forge makes a nice Viking style battle axe for a very reasonable price. www.hbforge.com

The handle is around 19-20" and the head is pretty heavy. Mine was not especially sharp when I received it, but they are easy to sharpen with a good file and stone. Two Hawks, who makes some exquisite hand-crafted tomahawks, has complimented H & B products as good sturdy items in their price range.

By the way, a hearty welcome to the Forums!

Any idees where one could try to get a hold of one of them used? I personally haven't even seen one so I don't know why he wants one, but it seems her REALLY does. The only pictures I have found of products from blackjack knives (witch I hope I the manufacturer of the axe to, if not I haven't even found the producer) have been of knifes, and I cant really say that the look like the kind of knifes that he usually goes for.

Blackjack Knives was the manufacturer back in the late eighties or early nineties ( not sure of the exact dates but it has been a while ago ). The axe is not manufactered anymore but you still see them at gun and knife shows and occasionally for sale on ebay or the various knife forums.

Just like him to ask me to find something that's no longer made! :) Any one have a pic of this axe? As I haven't seen one ever I'm more than curious to why he's so keen on getting one.

The Junglee Panda Skinning Axe is pretty damn close to that and can often be had for $60-70 from discounters. I was interested in the Panda but Cliff Stamp wisely suggested that for field use, the Uluchet from PJ Turner would be a better choice. However, for someone set on that style of axe, the Panda is definitely worth checking out. I think Guttman Cutlery handles the Junglee products and I'll try to find a site.

Check www.44magtool.com and look under "fixed blade knives." If you run "Junglee" through a search engine, you'll get several internet dealers who offer the line at decent prices.

The Delta is a LOT prettier, if you are willing to spend the difference. From a practical standpoint, I like the fact that the handle scales come forward far enough to allow comfortable use like an ulu. With the Panda, choking up forces you to grab the thinner metal shaft.
