Does anyone have one of the viking whetstones from Ragnar? I am thinking about picking one up and just wanted peoples thoughts. They look interesting and useful.

I have one that has attractive layering of colors in the strata of the stone. I wear mine on a cord around my neck. There are other more useful tools but this will do in a pinch and besides it just looks cool.

They are an appealing bauble, especially if you have some Nordic heritage like I do. However the stone is quite fine, so would be very slow going for anything more than touching up an edge that's only slightly degraded.

I have one that was gifted to me by Ragnar some years back. As others have noted, this is a very fine stone and is only appropriate for a final polish or the removal of very fine burrs.

It will not do for sharpening per se.

Just placed an order for one. I will let you know what I think about it when I recieve it.

it;s good just fine as others have stated... good for touching up scandi edges though, as they are very responsive.

Mine was deep dark green--almost black, with a few small thin red streaks. My wife uses it at jewelry. As for sharpening--as others have already said-- it's too fine to be of much use.
