By popular demand ... well, mqqn wanted to see this anyway ... this will be a place to post pics of the Viktims. mqqn had the idea of having a thread devoted to the timeline of the viktims. i.e. from when they were babies, all the way through adulthood.

i thought it was a good idea, but this was good timing, because today i beat the ever-lovin-crap out of mine! :D

i have what i like to call an "English" garden in front of my house. there are very pretty wild flowers that come in, but the weeds have taken over. the gas line in my trimmer has rotted out, but the ... ummm ... flowers? ... are now almost 6' tall. time to do something. so, i put new gas lines on my trimmer today....only to find out it didn't work after anyway. i did end up getting a new cheapie electric trimmer (very impressed btw). BUT...the weeds were thick stemmed...tough going.

needless to say, i wasn't going to be defeated by flora, so i went in...me and the poor Viktim. i'll tell ya what...that thing kicked some organic ass.

i have posted this elsewhere, but i want to stay true to the spirit of this thread...here is my Viktim when it was first received....

[flicking a tear from the eye] Ain't she a beaut?!

Now, today...here is what the Viktim was up against....

after. it is really hard to tell looking at the pics, but i dragged three full armloads of stuff outa there, and the Viktim chopped almost all of it....

our work here is done. you can't see, but the garden is lined with rocks. and, of course, i probably bounced the Viktim off a rock about 10 times.

i was super impressed with how this knife just kept going through those weeds. now, i did get some chips in the blade from those rocks, but i spent a while this evening getting those out. all set. Viktim #7 reporting for duty...

i can't remember...were you part of the passaround? either way....you'll love it. i am about to have a big blade downsizing sale. i love this thing.

Yessir - I played a role in the passaround. ;^)

Great knife!

Sweet. I beat the hell out of the Viktim when I had it for the pass around. It can take anything! I did things I would NEVER do in the field and it took it. The biggest problem isn't the knife, it's my sharpening skills! I'd take that knife anywhere as long as I brought sharpening stuff. Great pics.

your review was great. and it's funny you mention the sharpening "skills." i have never really tried to sharpen dings and/or chips out of a blade before. but...i figured it out. learning something new everyday!

Love the Viktim!
I got V#4 yesterday & am very impressed.
It reminds me of a mini Hudson Bay with a better handle.

d'oh! just seeing this now myke. glad to hear it...BUT, where's the pics?? ;)

i came back here to post a few new pics. i decided to try to zero-convex my edge. this is funny because i have no idea how to do this. i have to confess to all of you that my motivation was unfortunate. i have to sell my knives. as some of you know, my son just had ACL surgery and the bills are rolling in.

so, i decided to take all my "big" knives out into the woods behind my house and really see how they all perform. (i am hoping to allow myself to keep one, but i don't know at this point...;i'll be honest....i don't use a large knife very often. i have grand campy plans, but "best intentions" vs. bills...well...i'm sure you know what i mean. back to the story....)

i have to say i was disappointed with the Viktim. BUT...don't get me wrong...it was because it wasn't sharp. i thought i touched it up good after my gardening. but, nope. i did a shoddy job and the wood test made that all too clear to me.

so, naturally...i decided to convex it. :D i hit it with my disc grinder (just the foam-backed disk that fits into my drill press)...then i hit it with files, followed up with sandpaper (320, 600, 800 and 1000). i then spent quite a while stropping (black then green compounds). i then finished with a ceramic rod.

it is fairly sharp. slices paper pretty good. i can never get it quite to the next level....what folks call "hair-poppin" sharp. i spent about 2+ hrs on it, but again...can't seem to progress further than where it's at now. i may try again tomorrow.

i'm going to decide this weekend what to do. i am allowing myself to keep my Semi Wharnie Kephart....so not sure. sigh. such a bummer. i'm hoping this is just a bump in the road. the trough of the wave, so to speak. hopefully, i'll be able to grow my collection again soon enough.

anyway...here are some pics...it's tough to see the edge, but i just like posting pics (and seeing pics myke...ahem)...

thanks for listening guys. :)

Nice work Todd.
I've found that convex edges hold up much better under "hard use" compared to regular V edges.
Hopefully it works well for you.

duuude. that was worth waiting for! that underwater pic is great. really like the green micarta with the forge finish blade. looks awesome. thanks for humoring me myke. :)
