Hi Guys
recieved my AK village yesterday, would like to remove the handle and bolster to refinish and reduce the distance from the cho to the bolster. Am I correct in thinking that all I have to do is grind off the peened over end of the tang, heat the handle to melt the laha(sp) and remove the handle and bolster?
Any other tips etc gladly accepted.
Regards
Phil

Just either make the new handle a bit shorter, or hammer the back end of the tang to stretch it back to original length before it got ground off. That's what you'd have to do before remounting the original handle.

Hi Guys
Yes have been watching that thread. Thanks. I will modify the bolster and the tang shoulders to reduce the cho creep, refinish and refit the original grip.
Can someone tell me if the spike in the centre of the cho should be sharp or not, have three othere kuks here ( 16.5 WW2, 18 WW2 and BAS) and they are all different.
Thanks for your help
Phil

My 18" Chitlangi has this gap between the handle and buttcap that will not go away. Could I file the tang down, remove the buttcap, smooth up the handle and fit the buttcap to it. I've even considered not putting the buttcap back on, just the keeper. I would only do that if I could polish up the horn though. If I do the former, would I be able to stretch out the tang without removing the handle enough to but the buttcap back on?
