Hi,
I'm new in the list, my name is Giuseppe Monno, mailing from Madrid, in Spain. Here there's a question for the moderator, when will be available any village kukri? And when you senf these mails with kukri images, how can I ask to buy one?

Thanks, and have a good w-e

giuseppe

You have to e-mail Uncle Bill and ask if he has any. Generally they come in every now and again. His address is HIMIMP@aol.com

Or I think you can phone him. I'm not sure of the number though.

I think a couple went up this morning.

Personally I think a BAS with grain lines on the handle is a better deal. Not that the villagers are bad (I have a couple myself), The HI products are built sturdier. :)

gmonno, welcome to the forum. There are two threads that stay at the top of the forum's threads. One is on safety, the other on how to order. Re-read both.

Also, find one of Bill Martino's posts and click on the links under his signature. You may want to save them as favorites or bookmarks.

As you may be aware, the situation with the Maoists in Nepal is disruptive to the kamis ( bladesmiths ) and it's hard to concentrate when you fear for your family and friends safety.

At some point, they may move the workshop further out of the way and out of jeopardy. When this happens, they may purchase some well made, but by the better village kamia, khukuris to market while the move interrupts production. Or the regular kamis from the shop may make some less well finished cosmetically models stamped BG in devanagari ( for Birghorka ) as "villager type models" instead of the HI ( Himalayan Imports ) marked standard models which represent their best work.

Keep in mind that these are very human people in an environment so different few of us here can conceive more than some rough aspects of their lives. Just trying to keep things going smoothly drives Uncle Bill crazy. He never knows what will be in the next shipment he opens.

All of us should be glad the system works as well as it does. As the saying goes, the miraculous thing about a dancing bear is not how well it dances but that it dances at all.

Again, welcome to the forum.

In fairness, no single thing can be directly picked out as THE causative element in the condition.:D

I'm still crazy no matter whether things go smoothly or not -- too many charbroiled squirrel's heads.

And welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the cantina. You are in the right place to get ahold of some of the best made knives that I have seen anywhere. Most of the members of the forum will tell it like it is on most any subject about the Khuks. For a first, I think I'd have to go along with Bruise. The BAS is a very fine knife and can do a lot of work. The other first that is a good blade is the 15" AK. You'll have to go a long ways to get a better first knife that the AK.

Just take off your shoes and stick around a while I'm sure that others will let you know what they think.:) :)

Thanks to all, I'll check for new sells, even if, due to the time difference, will see the posts 7 hours late.... hope Uncle Bill and all the people will take this in count, from time to time, helping me to choose a good one.

Thanks

giuseppe monno
