Here is village model number 1. (Do I have more? Yes. I got in a parcel today of only villagers -- aboat 15 of them and they will be posted ASAP. Nothing special or outstanding so no use calling or emailing. They all are pretty much like this one.) It is 15 inches, 7/16 thick, and weighs 1 pound 6 ounces. It is pretty sophisticated for a village model. Grind marks are visible the entire length of the blade but it is shined up pretty well and there is some brass inlay and scrollwork at the back of the blade. The fit is ok for a villager and the hardness is up there -- 58 to 59 Rc. This little knife will do some serious work. The karda and chakma are small but are polished up and will do a little work.

Scabbard and frog made at BirGorkha and good quality but not made by the sarki with no name.

Downside is it has that awful traditional buttcap I hate so much.

Price for this little jewel is $60 delivered to your door.

Call or email if interested.

Fair enough, Bill. Sometimes, reactions can be too fast.

Why, Bill, I wasn't even thinking along those lines. I think, though, that we may have gained a little insight here.

I've reached my quota -- for this week, at least -- so you are safe for a while, Jim.

Bill, you are sometimes a master of understatement & this is one of theose times.

A familiar parcel showed up this morning containing my new 18" AK (wood pile, beware!) & this villager. Now you might think that the villager would be dwarfed in comparison to the large AK but that is not the case at all.

While considerably smaller & lighter, it is easy to see that the villager is tough & quite capable of handling just about anything that might be thrown at it. Although not razor sharp, it was able to slice ribbons of paper quite easily. A little edge touch up should be all that is required to make it shaving sharp.

Rather than having both chakma & karda, it came with two kardas which isn't such a bad idea when you consider that the backs or flats could always be used for steeling. I also found it interesting that there is a small circle on both sides of the blade immediately in front of the Sword of Shiva.

While I'd be happy to keep this villager as part of my collection, it will probably go to a friend. As I mentioned to Bill, a friend visited our camp a couple of weeks ago and asked for a knife to cut marshmallow sticks for the kids. Well, you know I gave her a khukuri & you should have seen her face -- instant HIKV infection! She quickly cut the sticks & then stood there staring at the blade in her hand. To make a long story short, she loved it, asked a ton of questions & was fascinated with its history. I think I have her BD present.

By my count, Bill should still have a few village models left. Do not hesitate to snatch one up if you are looking for a great little tool & one that you won't hesitate to put to work on the tough jobs.
