Here is a pretty neat little village model, 13 inches overall, 3/8 thick, and an ounce or two shy of a pound. Fit is okay and although grind marks are visible this is a pretty decent finish for a villager. Handle is especially nice. Hardness would not make the grade for an HI khukuri but is acceptable for village use at 55 to 56 Rc.

Karda and chakma are essentially useless but the scabbard and frog are very well done and must have been done at BirGorkha but I cannot recognize the work -- maybe the brother of the sarki with no name.

Anyway, take this little villager for $45 delivered to your door and see what it will do for you.

Call or email if interested.

Oh, thank goodness! The temptation was starting to win... Uncle Bill, now that this one is gone, what would you have wanted to add a decent karda and chakma?

if the handle is too small, i'll give it to my girlfriend (5'0" 90 pounds). maybe then she will finally take her hands off my service #1

i agree with Terry on this. If i buy a village khukuri, it is because that's what i'm looking for. somehow, tearing the whole rig apart and adding a karda and chakma from a totally different source disgusts me. i almost feel like i'm spitting in the face of the kami who made it, and saying "well, the khukuri is good enough, but the whole rig will need to be IMPROVED by someone else."
i like the villagers "as is", and i agree with uncle Bill that if you want a completed, first quality rig, you should just buy HI in the first place.

Whoa, hold on folks! Since I asked about the karda & chakma, let me explain. I am not spitting into another craftsman's face at all. I intend to put the other villager I just bought into hard service cutting brush and small trees along the Tennessee River when I perform Reserve duty. I'll also loan it to my sailors to try, hoping that they'll want one of their own. Should one of them slip and sling mine into the river, I don't want to have to "stump hang" the poor lad! So, no; I don't want to spend $140 for a khuk for that purpose. I need a working man's implement and I *do* want to be able to dress the blade properly, so I need the two smaller tools.

Uncle Bill I take great pride in my own work and I know how to appreciate skill in others. Look at my profile if you wish. 'Nuff said.

Stephen, absolutely no insult or depreciatory comment was intended. If you perceived it as such, i apologize. I was only referring to my own personal situation. sorry

Steven, no offense meant and I hope none taken. I am sending the extra karda and chakma from BirGorkha along and you can do with them whatever it takes to make the rig work. If you are handy you can make up something that will house them.

I view things from my own perspective and knowing the rigs as I do it is just easier to get something already made than to try to jury rig it myself -- but I am poor with wood and leather.

None taken, of course! I treat knives with utmost respect and appreciation for the makers. One way is to use their creation and that is exactly what I intend to do with the villager. I cannot wait to nab one of the HI beauties, easily worth their price but all too elusive...

Seriously, I meant no harm or insult to the (unknown) kami, not for an instant; nor to the good people on this forum, from whom I have already learned many things.

Best wishes and an olive branch,

Stephen
