Villager and WW2 models?

What is this "villager" model I see mentioned now and then? A more "rustic"/traditional khukuri, perhaps?

I'm also interested in the story behind the WW2 models. I assume these are based on the khukuris used by the Gurkha regiment, but I'm interested in a little more detail.

After I've received my 20" Ang Khola, I might very well be looking to buy another khukuri, preferably a design with some historical provenance. Are there other models besides the WW2 and the villager I should be considering?

Yes there are.

Most models are made in the manner of various regions of Nepal. The southern area bordering on the Ganges is not too far from sea level, The northeastern area encompassing Mt Everest is Sherpa territory, much of it above 10,000 feet, the eastern area is home of the Rai and Limbu tribes in the past sought out for service with the British Gurkhas, where as the Indian Gorkhas recruit there and elsewhere.

There are an estimated 200 types of khukuries. The Malla for instance was dicovered buried in the foundation of Birgorkha and dated by experts from the Royal Museum. The M43 is a copy of an issue khuk during WW2, the WW2 another form of WW2 issue, the BAS stands for British Armed Service, their currently carried khuk in the Regiment of Gurkhas.

look at the links under Bill Martino's signature and read the FAQ's originally started by Howard Wallace and updated and added to by many other knowledgeable forumites.

Speaking of Sherpas and historical khuks . . .

Wasn't somebody making a model of the Sherpa-style logo khuk a while back? Anybody know what the status is on this little project?

The logo khukuri is a Salyan.

The Sherpa style has a very different buttcap from all the others and Bill's been looking for one for the past several years to use as a model.

The story of how the small Salyan Bill was given was scaled up to become the 3/4" spined Super Salyan should be left to another time.

When they write the book on HI's history, that subject will take up a whole chapter.
