Gday guys!

Scored the 8 1/4" Bilton from the 13th Day of Christmas Deals for my wife (hopefully it arrives soon, shes eagerly awaiting her 'different' anniversary present). Which now leaves me a little stumped for a Khukri for myself. For years I used my fathers around the farm and more recently in the army, until it finally gave up the ghost with one of the guys trying to pry apart a box with it:heart-borken:. Its departure now leaves me with requiring a new one or possibly two. Larger one for heavy chopping and a smaller one for day to day little jobs. However I cannot find information on getting these fine blades in a villager finish exclusively. Nothing agains the super polished blades but I prefer a working finish on my gear.

Anyone have any info theyd care to share?

I think that if you can get a single khukuri to replace your father's it would be best, since only crazy people like steely gunz carry two khukuris with them wherever they go. What shape size was your previous khuk? Id go for a model similar to how it was considering how well it served you in the past.

Added bonus: they're also significantly cheaper. My villager finish Deradune was only $100 and it performs amazingly. There's some excess lahar where the blade meets the handle, and there's some tiny gaps in the handle, but it's still plenty robust.

All you need is one HUGE Khukuri, one standard Khukuri, and one small Khukuri.

Once you have those bases covered, you can work on buying all the ones you want.

In a way, I wish I'd had my Bonecutter made with a Villager finish. I feel bad about scratching up that polished surface whenever I chop wood with it.
Not bad enough to sell it or stop chopping with it (tulip poplar, sweetgum, and mulberry-I mostly use it for pruning overkill), but I still feel like I'm violating her when I use her.

I can live with it.
Maybe I need to get an M43 with villager finish. That way, I can chop with it, and keep the Bonecutter polished for making my friends jealous (mine's bigger than yours, type of thing).

Just got off the phone to my dad and he confirmed he did have an Ang Khola, wasnt 100% on it just from forum photos and it was a little bit shorter from years of work and resharpening. Started life as a 15 inch was down to about 13.5" by the time it was in my hands. Trying to decide to order a 12 or a 15 inch, wont be doing any heavy brush clearing mainly just lantana and small brush predominantly.

Might just have to order both and send the 15 to Dad as a replacement for a new years gift :)

Your dad's khuk was a Himalayan Imports Ang Khola? Can you please describe the break or even post pictures of it? Was the break at the blade itself or at the handle? Did it have a stick tang or a chiruwa tang (the metal tang exposed and shaped with the entire handle)? I'm curious to see because it's rarer than hen's teeth that you hear about a broken HI product -- especially an Ang Khola.

I'll see if dad can send some up, mailed the pieces back to him. It broke about 3 inches up from the handle, the guy who broke it had it about halfway under a box lid and prying up 'against the grain' / across the depth of the blade. :( I was just as surprised when I found out and didnt believe it at first because I've done some pretty rough cutting with it in the past. It has markings on the hilt from a kami but I cant remember them offhand?
