villager survived

Another fine round of testing, Cliff.

The value of your tests are 1) they show what one can expect a knife to do under heavy use, and 2) who tells the truth about their knives.

Forgot -- I sent that villager to Cliff for destruction testing at no cost. It had a fold line in the blade that I didn't like so I would not sell it. On shop 1 and 2 HI khukuris a fold line like the one on the village model blade causes the khukuri to get tossed into the reject box.

Holy Cow! Not only did it survive, it flourished! Any knife that has Cliff perplexed on how to make it fail is a winner in my book!

Excellant review, as aways, Cliff.

Good deal, Cliff! What a knife! Cliff, you mentioned once to me that if that knife survives testing you may be sending it to me...I'm not trying to be a mooch, actually, but I am going to be receiving a Ross Aki Machete and I needed something closer to it in size (my Dhankuta is a bit small) for some comparison testing. If you are planning on doing something else with your khukuri, then no big deal, but I just wanted to plant the seed, so to speak...great review as usual, and congrats to Uncle Bill on yet another proven product.

You will notice that I say Himalayan Imports makes the best khukuri coming out of Nepal today. Please note that I do NOT say we make the best khukuris being made in Nepal today. Some of those old village kamis like Kancha Kami and Ganga Ram make khukuris that are impossible to beat. That reject village knife told the story better than me.

The villager is very durable, more so edge wise that the 18" AK. The 22" AK I have is a little harder, I think I'll take that out and compare it as well. The problem there though is that the high mass of the 22" AK makes the edge more durable just by making the khukuri less likely to glance and such which can stress the edge.

Chiro75, I have promised the villager to a friend after reading that you bought the Dhankuta. How large a khukuri is that? The villager I have is only 472 g and 35.2 cm long over all. However if you want to compare a machete to a decent sized khukuri I am sure we can work something out, drop me an email. I noted your post in the review forum and the machetes in question look interesting.

Cliff, it was advertised at 16" but my measurement shows it to be closer to 15 1/4" overall or so. The machete will probably have about a 12" blade or a little longer. I should have a Gurkha House Bjopure by that time, though, that I am getting for $40, so maybe that will give a good reference. Thanks, Cliff!

Cliff and Chiro I have a couple of old test case khukuris somewhere. These are knives that I damaged in extreme testing. If I can find one I'll send it to Chiro. They have already been through one round of testing and survived to a good degree so why not send them away for more testing?

Uncle Bill

That would be great, Bill! I could turn them into usable knives and then try and destroy them again! No problem! Oh...I realized I was rather delinwuent on that Dhankuta, too, but the check is in the mail. Sorry! And if you need my mail address again, please email. I will gladly put those khukuris through the ringer again! Just let me know...

Better send the address again, Chiro. I have a hard time correlating our stage names to real names.

I found an old BAS that I beat up pretty badly. You can bring it back up to top beauty if you like and then destroy it again -- or you can take off with it as is. It is in pretty good shape but there are grind marks where I ground away some damage I'd done to flat of blade using it as a hammer.
