My first HI khuk was a WWII. I had looked over the Internet for several months, found HI and before really ever posting, bought my first blade at one of UB’s deals of the day. Needless to say, I was quite happy with it and bought several others over time.

Anyhow, an archeologist buddy and I have been planning for some eight months a rafting/hiking/volunteer arch. survey for the Big Bend / Lower Canyon area. The park archeologist mentioned we might have to cut through river cane to get to certain silt terraces / habitation sites. My first thought was too pick up a villager for the trip but I put it off thinking I’ll just grab a machete instead. I’m sure I just heard a gasp of horror come from the computer :)

I got Pendentive’s email about Bill; Yangdu’s upcoming trip and her willingness to accept help through deals of the day etc. Her first post of sales had two villagers and all I could think about is “the right khuk will find you” Fate, kismet or karma…..the WWII and Ganga Ram are now sitting on my desk. The WWII will go next to it’s brother at home, the GR will go with us on the trip…..I’ll let my friend have the machete!! ;)

A little sanding of the handle, some oil and she’ll be ready to go. Maybe even make a field cover for the scabbard if time permits. Does anyone still have the pics of the cloth-covered scabbard T. Sisko made for a Pen knife….I think it was a Pen knife? I can’t find my pics but seems like there was a fire starter attached and a small ceramic sharpener

Nevertheless, thank you Yangdu, I love the villagers. Have a safe trip and we’ll be thinking of you both.

That Big Bend Texas?

My wife and I will be there in late June.

They do tend to find their rightful owners don't they?:) Although, the more of them I collect, the more they start seeming like stray cats begging at the door;) That sounds like a really fine trip you're going on there, steve. i wish my work wasn't so seasonal. i'd love to go on a trip like that with a close buddy or two. If you get the chance, take some pics and post them:) That's a beautiful area.

Yep, we're specifically looking at Boquillas area. Let me know if you want me to grab any materials for you while we're there Munk. We've also got the names of some good outfitters, Tex-Mex restaurants etc.

Afterwards, please let us know how the GR served. Contrasts with the machete would also be interesting. It's hard to beat a machete for certain types of brush.

Steely_Gunz,

We'll be taking a lot of pics of the area and I'll certainly post a few. Hoping to find some uncharted rock shelters or pictograph/petroglyphs. Supposedly some bison kill sites from Paleo Indian period as well. Just praying the river gods are gentle to our canoe :)

I'm with you on the Villagers. In fact I'm with you on the Ganga Ram.

I think you are thinking of the sheath Mr Stov made not Terry Sisco.

I have a pen knife sheath Terry made. I'll try to find the picture again.

If you search I had Pen/Dan I think post it here.

No problem Howard.....can't wait to see my friend's reaction to the GR.

Likewise, has anyone had any trouble with TSA when traveling by air with their khuks?

Thanks HD, I couldn't remember who made it but it was quite nice. I might have the pics on the computer at home. Just can't remember which cache I cleaned up.
