Villagers VS. ???

I've been meaning to ask this for a couple of weeks, but Uncle Bills Special thread today reminded me. Is the main difference between the Village models and the "standard models" basically that the wood is not quite as nicely finished on the handles? Then what would be the difference between a standard horn handled 12" AK and the 12" horn handled Villager AK UB offered today?

FYI, I saw an old thread started by Sarge a year or two ago talking about a wood handled Villager sirupati he had just received, and he said something like it really had a personality of it's own and was really sharp.

Just wondering about where they fit in with the "normal" line of HI blades and how they are different.

Thanks as usual for any feedback,

Norm

Everything's the same. The kamis don't spend the time to polish the details. Plus you get the white metal fittings.

Man I was hoping for a Villagers VS. Bear, or Villager VS. brick or giant radioactive lizard thread. Oh well maybe next time. The blades of the villagers do not have the "magic stone" mirror finish on them like the normal H.I. product. The bolsters and end caps are "white metal" instead of brass. I do not think that anyone knows exactly what the white metal is made of, it isn't stainless and cold blue only kinda works on it so...it's something. The handle of my 20" AK villager is horn but just wasn't polished to a high shine. Which gives it a better grip in my opinion. Others will jump in I am sure.

The villagers are basicly the "jane" of the khuk world. They aren't much to look at as far as premium HI goes, but they have personality for days:D. "white metal" seems to be popping more and more where actual steel used to be. my first HI product was a 15.5" villager model by Kumar and it has real steel fittings. the steel blued really nicely:) I love villagers as all i do with my khuks is beat the tar out of them anyway. i dont even try to keep them "purdy". Villagers make it all the easier to lay into some old sappy wood without a second thought. try one, you'll love it:)

I actually prefer the village models. By not being so highly finished the edge bevel is generally a bit thicker which is a big plus IMO. I think they're the best buy going by HI!!!!
The other guys have mentioned the white metal but it has been my experience that the butt caps are steel with the bolsters being the mystery metal. Like Mark said, "cold blue only kinda works on it so..." and that has been my experience as well.
I would've sworn that the bolster on my Foxy Folly was steel until the cold blue hit it and went, Whhooaaa!!!! It blued it but not nearly as dark or deep as the steel fittings.
