Wondered if anybody has read the most recent Vince Flynn book, The Last Man, in his Mitch Rapp series? Around page 88 on the digital copy an assassin, which I assume will be the main bad guy in the book since I haven't finished it yet, is getting ready to leave his hotel and slides a Blur into his pocket. With a movie in the works for one of the books in this series, starring the guy that played Thor, I wonder if they won't have some ZTs or Kershaws in the movie. Anyways here is the quote:

He retrieved his alias passport from the hotel safe with a matching credit card and cash as well as other worn forms of ID that any seasoned customs agent would expect to find in a fortyish old man’s wallet. He donned a pair of cargo pants, hiking boots, field shirt, and light gray North Face vest. Into the left cargo pocket of his pants he slid a Kershaw Black Blur folding knife in the event that he needed to discreetly kill someone.

I haven't read the last book but I picture Mitch Rapp as the type who would carry a ZT. Didn't know they were making a movie and I hope they don't screw it up but I think Rapp is a little to hard core for the general public's consumption.

Pretty cool. I like it when authors actually name the knife or gun or piece of gear, rather than just a 'tactical knife' or 'semi-auto handgun'.

I know Brad Thor likes LaRue rifles in his books. Also names several Glocks too.

Anyway...I'm guessing Rapp was carrying a Blur Tanto. :D

I love the Rapp series. Some authors get into name dropping uber high-speed gear because it shows they are on the cutting edge of what's supposed to be cool and if their character is using this neato stuff, well they must be high speed too. Flynn went the other direction and essentially stripped Rapp down to the basics and made him brutally efficient, like Matt Damon's portrayal of Jason Bourne; sure he can use super awesome gadgets but he'll also mess you up with a bic pen.

I love Flynn's books. However.... The Blur seems like an odd choice for an assassin since it is AO and makes a nice *thwack* when it opens. I know you can stop the blade as it comes out and open it more discreetly... A small fixed blade would be a better choice.

This comes from years of experience of course (reading political thrillers that is). :)

That passage is actually about another character in the book. Louie Gould. Flynn talks about Rapp having a knife later but never names it. Although i believe that Rapp had a fixed blade ZT in an earlier book.
