Tell me about this sheath. What years was this style used?

Not my knife and sheath. Just saw it on the Bay.

A reworked and cut down holster (flap) sheath.... ?

edit... that was my first thought but there would have been a snap on the front.

I thought the same thing, but the belt loop also appears to be integral with the body of the sheath.
 
Cut down.. Look closely at the 2nd pic.. Top of knife area.. See the rounded cut corners and the leather behind it.. John

I think you're correct. The placement of the throat rivet was throwing me off, but now I realize the rivet was replaced. The sheath was cut right below the front snap. Actually, whoever did the modification, did a great job.
 
Looks cut down to me.
Why would they picture it next to the sheath of a cheapo $8 pakistani " patch knife " ?
Picturing Buck knives next to pakistani garbage really annoys me, it's insulting to that Buck knife there.
