Hi everybody, I recently won this old 110 in an auction. I am wondering what I should request to be done to the knife when I send it to Buck for the spa treatment?
the description said that it has wobble side to side, up down. I don't mind the blade being a little shorter from the use it's seen but can they repair the pivot if it has been worn down to much?

Thanks,
Wallace Mutt

I think they can clean and shape it up nicely for you. I don't see a problem with the pivot. If you want to keep the blade, ok. A new blade would help. Did you get the original sheath w/ it? Good photos. DM

Sadly no sheath, but I did see one on there. The asking shipping price is insane though.
Yes the photos from the seller were very nice.

Wallace, when you send it in to Buck tell them you would like to purchase a sheath for it. I'm certain they'll work with you. DM

I'd wager you'll be surprised what they can do with a spa treatment however, the cuts/scratches in the scales might not be able to be removed entirely as they look pretty deep and they can only sand them down so much. With the wear on the blade already, reprofilng and putting a new edge on it might leave the blade looking pretty weird and short. Spending $10 to rebadge it would be money well spent.

Wallace, do you intend to use this knife or keep as a collectable?
You have an older knife with a brass rocker pin and maybe a brass spacer. If you have Buck change the blade you will not get this one back, iirc. Tough call. Got a view of the rear end?

I'm going to say with a very high degree of certainty that you will get their standard 420hc blade. I sent a 560 to them for a new blade. It was 440c (or 425m, I don't recall) and no matter how much I pleaded, I ended up with a standard 420hc blade. I offered to pay up for the S30V but couldn't get past the "we can't do that" to even throw a price out there.
If you want the original blade returned though, just ask nicely and they'll pack it up when they return the knife to you.

I still don't have it yet. I did re-read the description and it says brass frame/bolster, brass spacer at the rear, brass rocker pin. If I did want to have it as a collector, would it be better to keep the old blade? For originality?

It's not good enough to be a collectors piece. Do anything you want to it and use/enjoy it guilt free.

True maybe, I'm willing to bet that I could at least triple what I paid for it though. Mainly got it to try out bucks spa service. To have a buck knife that is 40 years old is pretty neat and finding pictures of the brass spacer models is hard. Rare knife maybe?

My brass spacer 110 before and after the spa treatment.

Buck can do amazing things with old wrecks, and does. But unless there's some sentimental reason, I'd just buy a new one.

Makael, thanks for those pics. That spa job looks amazing. It looks like the blade on mine is slightly more worn than yours and that makes want to keep the original blade now.

Buck can clean up most of the wear and tear on the blade. What a great knife.
