Vintage 112 micarta question

I've been wanting to get one of the older 112's with micarta scales. Recently, I saw one, which had what appeared to be "buffing" marks on the micarta.

Others i've seen, the scales were perfectly flat and smooth.

This one, had marks as if the micarta was buffed with small wheels such as with a Dremel? Sort of looked like ripples in the micarta perpendicular to the scales.

My question: did some have marks like described from the Buck factory or should they be smooth?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Peter

Peter here is a picture of my 112 w/micarta...

Don't know if you can tell by the photo,IIRC the surface is smooth/flat but the micarta itself does have lines/designs that appear to ripples. It's packed with the 124 to go to CA so I can't inspect it for you, sorry. HTH, Preston

Thanks Preston. The marks looked JUST like the ones in the picture of your micarta 112.

Perhaps I just had not noticed them before?

Peter

yes i have several micarta 112 's
3 have the wavy ripples one dont and one i had before did not
all were not factory new but all were unmolested..
yes yours is ok..

Thanks Dave.

The one I was looking at was well used and poorly sharpened. Considering the condition of the blade, it made me think someone took a buffer to the micarta, as it looked better than the blade.

The price on it was $100 and when I passed, another customer that came and showed it to me, picked it up for $75.

Thanks,
Peter

I own two of them and have held to inspect 3-4 more and noticed those ripples on 2 .
But the ripples are very slight and I thought it was a normal factory knife . DM

yes dave it is a norman factory knife
some times one worker would buff more then another to get it to look good

I think they are UP on the micarta versions. I saw one go for around $150 recently on ebay.

Peter

I was asked to sell an unused 1V2V Micarta 112 and charged 100 USD
including shipping from Germany. But the potential buyer didn't agree.
I guess it was too expensive for him. Next time I'll quote 150$. Then
I am sure that I'm not too cheap with that knife. But on the other side:
I think I don't sell it anymore and put it into my collection. Side by side
with my V1V1.

Best,
Haebbie

Those are VERY nice Haebbie.

I only have a few 112's and the oldest is a wood scaled 3-liner without nail nick.

Been wanting a micarta, but not bad enough to pay premium price for it.

As I mentioned in another thread, since it is NOT something I need, I can wait till I find one for the right price. My definition of the "right" price is one that I believe I could sell it for, should I want to.

I realize each person has their own mentality. That's just mine:D

Regards,
Peter

Well Peter, I was somewhat upset because I thought i do him a favor.
And I asked what I paid for the knife. But he didn't realize that.
I don't need to sell the 112. It's a good item for my collection.

Best,
Haebbie
