I bought this unusual Stanley 1022 recently. The ferrule has a patent date for the construction of the screwdriver, not the addition of the knife blade. I've looked through some old catalogs but haven't found an example. A 1934 catalog lists the same patented "Hurwood" screwdrivers but without the knife blade. I found a couple of other examples from dealer websites. According to one dealer, it was made "1939-1941 Only" but no reference is provided.
It's an interesting design. The knife has a slipjoint construction with metal liners and a spring. It appears to be held in place by a set screw on the side as well as an end cap.
