I have a friend in Canada that I exchange axes with once and awhile. A short while ago I received a Vintage Agdor Hults Bruks Montreal pattern from him. This is a special axe for me so it needed a special helve for it.

I dug through my handle stash and found a sweet 28" fawns foot boys handle. I had saved this one because it had a slim, sleek handle on it. One usually only finds a helve like this one on vintage axes.

After sanding off the varnish, I stained her with dark walnut. I like the way she turned out.

After some careful fitting, she ended up a perfect fit for this vintage head.

Thanks for looking, Tom

That's great. Beautiful finish on that handle. I'm sure you'll enjoying using that one for many years.

Cute little fella and you did a nice job of it! The Swedes must have tried very hard to emulate Canadian patterns because this one looks exactly like something Morley Walters would have sold as an Ottawa Chief "pulp axe". Betcha the Swede version was $1-2 dollars cheaper (of $10) and swayed lots of tinhorns, novices and cheapskates to buy one instead of "made in Hull Quebec". In the long run Swede stuff proved to be the equal of n. American but at the time 'made in Sweden' was not dissimilar to the reputation of 'made in India/China/Mexico today.
