Recently, I purchased a nice vintage Blackfoot Dagger from the deceased knifemaker Walter Kneubuhler and found plenty of historical and technical info about him in a website maintened by Mr. David Votaw, a real gentleman who sent me an original catalog of WK Knives from the 70's.
This WK dagger started on me the taste for vintage American custom knives, and I would like to know more about some knifemakers from the 60's and 70's. I have several American knives' books, all of them from the beginning of the 70's but none with substantial info about the pioneer artisans I'm searching. And, sure, I also tried Internet but unsuccesfully... Equally, Mr. Bernard Levine already informed that data about some of these vintage knifemakers are difficult to obtain.
I'm specially interested in LaDow Johnston, E.G. Smith and Larry Brandstetter. As I'm planning to buy a little selection of knives from these knifemakers, any information about them and/or sources for their vintage creations will be gladly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance for any help,
Laercio Gazinhato (from Brazil)
