Hi BF,
I recently came into possession of a Buck 110 via an inheritance and wanted to learn a bit more about it as I am a modern folder enthusiast. From what I can tell via the research is that this is a Buck 110 from 1974 - 1980 in 440C. Mechanically, it works fine and has great lockup. The wood is in outstanding shape (curous on the type of wood) and the brass has patina'd with some normal wear and tear. It appears to have been sharpened sometime long ago. Overall, I would say that it is in good condition for it's age, despite the engraving, but again I am a newbie in the vintage folder realm. I would love to learn more if anyone knows anythiing additionally! Is there any sense in sending into Buck for a spa treatment? Also, any sense on a value?

Thanks in advance!

I asked Mods to move your psot into the Buck forum from the general forum. you'll get better responses to your questions.

I'm thinking wood looks like ebony...which type they used back then...don't know as I don't collect old 110s...but I do like the squared bolsters.

many have and good luck having Buck clean up their knives. think Buck will ask if you want the blade sharpened to the old angles which were pretty blunt back then, or the newer edge 2000 angles which are much steeper and easier to get edge on them and keep sharp and makes it a better slicer. various opinions on that...I prefer the new edge angles.

Thanks, appreciate the insight and moving to the appropriate forum. Take care!

Was the former owner a big Dolly Parton fan? I searched October 15, 1973 and the only significant event I found for that day was Dolly released her song Jolene on October 15.

Kidding aside, it looks to be in pretty good condition. Sentimentally, how much do you value the knife? If you are not attached to it, send it to Buck and for $6.95 they will clean it, sharpen it, and have it looking like new in a few months. Buck could possibly remove the engraving if it isn't too deep. It is hard to tell how deep it is in the photos. The only problem is that there is a slight chance that it could be lost when shipping it to Idaho or back. If the knife meant a lot of me and I didn't want to risk losing it forever, I would just clean it up myself. The blade doesn't have the best edge, but you can resharpen it easily. Flitz polish will have the brass shined up with little effort. If you wanted to buff it, you can buy a buffing wheel for a drill and polishing compound for about $10 that would really make it shine.

As far as value, there isn't a lot of collector value with the engravings. I would put the value at $50 once cleaned. Perhaps a little bit more if it has a sheath in good condition.

Thanks! Honestly, the knife is of no sentimental value to me. I appreciate the info and more than likely may send it off to Buck or put it for sale on BF as part of a lot w/some other knives that were also left behind.

We would be happy to clean that up for you. Please make note on the repair form that the knife is sentimental and whether you would prefer the engraving to remain or be removed.

Perfect, thank you and will do!

Hope this helps.

From everything I have read, your 110 was made between 1978-1980 due to the blade stamp and three "larger" brass handle pins.

Not my knives, but I saved this photo showing the handle pin progression. As you can see, the third knife down has three small brass pins compared to the fourth knife. Apparently, the three small pins were only used in 1977.
