Vintage Buck Bowie Knife ID Please

A friend of mine got this huge "Buck" knife and both of us can't figure out if it is real.
It is a massive bowie, a blade measuring about 11.5 inches.

What do you think this is? If it is real, is this a one-off or a production knife?

To the moderator, I won't be asking questions about value anymore.
I mostly care if it is real.

Yes, an early handmade Buck Bowie.
I think resembles (but predates) a 901 Bowie, the 905 was shorter.

I would think that the folks Buck, CJ especially would be interested in this knife. Might have been made by Al or Frank. I think I read somewhere that Frank had a thing for big knives.

I have seen some early Bucks that were similar, I believe that’s most likely authentic. If it does turn out to be, I suggest your friend buy a nice safe and keep it in there. Worth a good chunk of coin for sure if it really is real.

That looks to be a real 905 Mountain Man Bowie, I will have Tony our historian take a look to make sure. It could be an old Frank Buck build he was really into big knives.

My first thought was a Frank Buck made knife, but I'm just guessing.

It's not a 905. I have one of the first 905s made. This is an old Frank Buck. I think gedlicks is the local authority.

Very interesting knife. I do believe it to be authentic and most likely made by Frank Buck. It will not have a model number assigned to it.

I LIKE the blade profile! More of a needle tip..The guard seems thicker too. Heck even the shieth is cool and shows use. I've always wondered how well a big and heavy knife would perform in general knife tasks but the 'biggest' I have owned is a 651.
Frank Buck was a real character ! Has anyone estimated the number of knives he personally made? I know he gifted a few to close friends and vaguely remember a story of a big one to settle a bar tab. Big Bucks in general have a small but advid collector base. I think it should go to one of them if you don't want to keep it. How about sharing the back story of discovery?
