Vintage dated traditionals?

Aside from the "Black box" Winchesters, were there any quality traditionals made in the 1980s which were date-stamped on the tang?

I'm asking because my wife and I were married in 1985, and since we're both knife people I'm thinking that a pair of 1985-stamped knives would be a neat anniversary gift.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Case tang stamps are dated the 1985 ones have CASEXX then 5 dots under that then USA under the dots also both the s in Case and USA are in a lightning bolt font. You can see what they look like on their web site under Case College then go to tang stamps any click on the 1980-1989 icon.

I just sold an 85 case barlow mint on the exchange a few days ago! Bulldog brand knives stamped the date right on em in the 90's and 00's. They probably also did this in the 80's but I dont know for certain, they are a quality knife and probably better than the 80's cases knives in my limited experience. Good luck!

When were the reproduction Remington trappers being made? They were date stamped.

I think the wooden handled ones were done in 1989.

Anything earlier?

Thanks, but I think I need to stay with something my wife doesn't need a cheat sheet to read ;)

Camillus made Remingtons would be a great idea. I believe only certain patterns were dated. The 1303 was 1984, the 1306 was 1990. I gave an Alaskan bush pilot, or just bush pilot, which I believe was dated 88 or 89, to my baby sisters boyfriend. Find out which pattern was for 1985, and get that one. If you guys like knives, I'm guessing you like guns, Remington makes some of the finest rifles and shotguns out there.

Each year Schrade would select a pattern or two, mark them with a Compliments of Schrade Cutlery etch along with the year. According to my records, in 1985 they used two different Old Timer knives, the 104ot and 108ot.

These Compliments knives were apparently given to certain dealers as gifts. They are uncommon/rare.

Here are some examples so you can spot them easier. In addition to the blade etch, note the sterling silver beaded shields.

Who was making Remington knives in 1985? Found a bunch on that big auction site; listed as "440 stainless steel", which is frankly not terribly exciting...nor are the Delrin scales.

The Bulldogs are the most attractive, and the Cattle King is the right pattern (and were dated in that year), but I'd have to find two of the things!
