Hi all,

Sorry I have no pictures. I recently acquired a VERY COOL (I believe) "Forged" vintage Hand Sickle.
On the whole, I'm not a fan of Sickles but, there was just "something" about this vintage Sickle that spoke to me. Unlike other Sickles I've owned, this one appears to be much older and the condition is quite good! The blade appears (I think) to be a Forged blade. The blade is one piece and I suspect must have some sort of "Rat Tail" Tang as it is seated into a nice size round wooden handle. I see no pins/rivets etc. anywhere on the entire Sickle. This Sickle looks to be a solid one piece blade and a wood handle. Simple but neat! The blade is fairly thick, especially at the base and is marked with the letters : TS No. 4. The letters "TS" just so happen to also be my intinals which makes this Sickle extra cool!
At any rate, I'm really liking this old Sickle! Might anyone have any information on Sickles stamped with TS (and No. 4) ? Thanks.

Regards,

Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting that awesome Historical page/link. I'm still a bit unsure what I have in the way of a Sickle but, I did learn from that link that a little (unknown) to me tool I bought awhile back (just because it was cool) turns out to be a vintage (made in Germany) "POTATOE SPOON" used to remove Potatoe Eyes and other inperfections (page 23 #311 if memory serves). Ha, and I thought it was a "Melon ball" maker lol. Thanks again.

Hi all,

I've been checking out the web and several found pictures on Ebay that look VERY close to my (new to me) Sickle. I didn't post pixs or a link as I don't know if it's allowed. At any rate, my best guess is that I now own a rustic/antique Austrian sickle. Now, all I have to do is to research and see if there was a Company with the intinals "TS" Austrian Tool maker.

Good Afternoon,
I'm unsure if you ever found your answer. I recently bought a similar Sickle and after searching far and wide, found that it was made by:

Thomas Staniforth & Co,

Ooh, THANK YOU so very much mhffighter. I never did (until now) had an answer to my original inquiry. In 2025, I still own this Sickle as my initials just so happen to also be T. S.
Thanks so much again.
