Last weekend, I helped to clear up an attic and I found this hatched.

I tend to use it as my "new" camping hatchet. Therefore I have to restore it first.

On my researches according to the forge marks I already found this thread and your beautiful axes. :thumbup: From your thread I borrowed the idea to try disrusting with electrolysis, because the result really convinced me. Did you build the electrolyse-device on your own?

The hatchet is from the grandfather of my wife. Therefore I want to restore it. Maybe my son will someday be grateful that he can use the hatchet of his great-grandfather.

In your case the forge mark 1250 stands for the weight of the head in gramms, right? In my case I cannot imagine that this little hatchet weighed near 2 kilos ;) so I agree to Mr. Helsper that 1940 stands for the year of production.

Project-Update:

After the hatchet got an new handle made of ash-wood, it looks like this:

At last the hatchet will become a new edge a new leather case for transport.
