Cool Photo's Spiral, Thanks for sharing!
Of course you know i have to move this to the Cantina.

Great pictures, thank you for sharing

Is that the famous convex rock that we all are looking for to sharpen our khukuris?:)
I would say it shows the difference between people and how they sharpen their blades, and what constitues "sharp enough".

IMO, it is not necessary to wear 'makeup'

to be intimidating

and nor does well presented :

mean less able. In fact it can appear staged:

but then I'm no fan of many modern tactical practices either. :(

Great photo's, thanks for posting them.

bruce

ps. seems generational family links continue, it would be good if you felt like sharing which warrior was your grandfather?

They do in a way Bruce, but not how you see it.

With the photo you mean, I said someones grandfather because I didnt recall whos grandfather it was. It certanly wasnt mine, If it was Id say my grandfather.

Actualy My Grandfathers were more the Somme, Gallipoli & Neuve Chapel ww1 era, one was a machine guunner in the Seaforth Highlanders, One was taken POW by the turks at Gallipoli. My father was Chindits in Burma with a Brigade that was a 3rd Gurkhas, so I did learn about them at an early age.

Regarding your other comments, I see your points, Gurkhas Ive spoken to say there not the men there fathers & grandfathers were, there more like special forces knowadays,So they pose & makeup in such a manner, they dont run screaming with kukri in hand at machine gun nests anymore, with total faith in the Gods will karma, kismet, the pre ordained after life etc. today they will call in air support, artillary or use mortars & rocket launchers at such targets, whenever they can. Its a differnt world 90 or even 60 years on.

That Said, personaly Id say today, even those who pose for a photo or wear makeup or $400 sunglasses will still when cornered & fighting for thier lives & those of their comrades & friends ,will do whatever they deem neccasary & that all bets are off & heads may well roll if your the deemed bad guy.;)

Thier fathers would be proud.

Long may they continue.

Ayoooo Gurkhali!

The desert tan scabbard in the pic with the Anglo officer is COOL!

It certanly is the right colour, isnt it! The Photo was taken in Afghanistan.

But just in case my old friend in the photos is looking in, I should point out he is actualy a fairly senior French Officer who has spent much time in & around many combat zones in Africa & the middle east & has been attached to various nationalities forces at different times in the past including the US of A for a couple of years. Hes a vey reliable sort ;)

Also Has a great antique kukri collection & sometimes wears a lovely old ww2 era m.43 when at work just in case things go very wrong.}
